Chapter 2-13
File Menu – Export As Sub-menu
iData 2 .id2fx File

This is a holdover from the days when iData 2.0 was released without label and envelope printing functions. Now that iData 2.1 does have those fuctions, it is no longer needed, but we have decided to keep it in iData 2.1 and to drop it when we finally go to iData 2.2.

This is intended to be a one-way transfer of data for label and envelope printing only. Since iData Pro does not support styled text and embedded graphics, most users will not want to repeatedly transfer iData Pro datafiles back into iData 2.

NOTE: iData 2 export functions work only on selected records. Therefore, if you have been viewing only a partial selection of the records in a datafile, but wish to export all of the records, you must first choose All Records from the Select menu, to ensure that all records in the datafile are in the selected state.

To Export a Datafile from iData 2

         1. Open the datafile to be exported.

         2. Select iData 2 .id2fx File... from the Export As sub-menu under the File menu.

         3. In the Save dialog that comes up, navigate to the directory where you want to save the exported file. If you have an iData Datafiles folder where you keep your iData Pro files, that would probably be a good choice.

         4. Click the Save button. You may change the saved file name first, if you wish, but be sure not to change the .id2fx file name extension, since iData Pro will not import files that do not include that extension.

To Import the File Into iData Pro

         1. Be sure that you are using version 1.0.17 or later of iData Pro. (If you already have a valid iData Pro serial number beginning with iDX, you can download the latest version from http://www.idata2.com/download_idata.html and begin using it right away. If you do not have a valid serial number, you can purchase the latest version of iData Pro at http://www.idata2.com/purchase.html .)

         2. Select iData 2 (.id2fx) File... from the Import sub-menu under the File menu.

         3. In the Open dialog that comes up next, navigate to the saved file, select it, and click the Open button.

         4. In the Save dialog that comes up next, click the Save button. You may change the saved file name first, if you wish. Note that the default name is the same as that of the imported file, except that the file name extension has been changed from id2fx to id2. This is done to reduce the likelihood of saved datafiles overwriting other versions of the same file, so we recommend that you maintain that extension.

         5. Once the new datafile has been imported, it can be treated like any other iData Pro datafile.
