Chapter 1-4
Modifier Keys for Toolbar Buttons

The actions of several of the toolbar buttons can be modified by holding down one or more special keys while clicking the button.

The special keys are shift, control, option, and command. The command key is also known as the Apple key, or the clover key.

Find Button Keys

Just below the Toolbar is the Find Box. At its left are two buttons. The right button is the Find Button, which initiates a forward search for the text in the Find Box. The left button is the Reverse Find Button which initiates a reverse search. These buttons are not actually in the toolbar and cannot be removed or moved.

Holding down the option key while clicking the Find Button will cause iData 2 to skip to the beginning of the next record before starting the forward search. This is useful for getting past a record that has lots of instances of your target text, when you know you are not interested in the current record.

Holding down the option key while clicking the Reverse Find Button will cause iData 2 to skip to the end of the preceding record before starting the reverse search.

Normally, the target that iData 2 finds is highlighted in gray, but not active. This is to prevent you from accidentally typing over important data, and it keeps the Find Box active for another search. If you want to have the target highlighted and active when it is found, hold down the command key down when clicking the forward Find Button. Or, type Control-Command-F. The found text will be highlighted and active so you can copy, cut, or type over it.

The command key can also be used in combination with reverse searches to highlight the found text. Hold down the command key down when clicking the Reverse Find Button. Or, type Control-Command-Shift-F.

Paste into New Record

Hold the option key down while clicking the Add New Record button to create a new record with the contents of the clipboard pasted into the Freeform Text Area.

Delete Record Without Warning Message

Hold down the shift and option keys while clicking the Delete Current Record button to delete the current record without the usual warning dialog.

Toggle Paste Option while Grabbing Web Address

Hold down the option key while clicking the Grab Web Address From Browser button to toggle the setting to paste clipboard text and images at the end of the  record.  (See Chapter 2-8 to learn about Web Address settings.)
